Populated outset 'Bronze Age, the ancient Mons Silicis is conquered by the Lombards in the VII century, as narrated by Paul Deacon.
In the twelfth century it became a free commune and later was occupied by Ezzelino Romano, lieutenant of the Emperor Frederick II. In the fourteenth century the city was the subject of contention between the expansionist policies of Can Grande della Scala and the Carrara and takes on a military and preserves signs consistent enough to be included on the list of today's walled cities of the Veneto.
